3 years into my Birth Photography career

I can’t quite believe it has been 3 years since I started my birth photography career, and WOW what an incredible 3 years it has been! My driving force for starting this work was to contribute to normalising birth and to help women realise just how incredible they truly are! I signed up for Lacey Barratt’s birth photography course when my youngest was just 8 weeks old, and after not being able to book a birth photographer myself, I was passionate about making this available in Adelaide. I had spent the previous 3 years doing family and newborn photography, hypnobirthing training and lactation support and I knew it was time to take the step into births.

For the majority of 2018 I spent my time learning and refining my skills and in January 2019 I captured my first birth. The beautiful human who took a chance on me, I am still friends with to this day, I was even privileged to capture her wedding last year. I will never forget all those who gave me opportunities in the early days, it truly blew my mind how beautiful people can be.

Since January 2019 I have been incredibly lucky to capture many many births, all over Adelaide, from home births, to hospital births to belly births. 2020 proved a difficult year, however I still manage to be a part of 9 births, an incredible feat in a year where I was locked out from most hospitals!

2020 was also the year I stepped into births as a Doula, this addition has been the perfect accompaniment to birth photography and I truly believe every woman should have the opportunity to have a Doula, there is just something so powerful about women supporting women and the statistics on outcomes speak for themselves.

In this time I have also battled my own personal battle, many of you know my youngest daughter has been sick from birth and this work really helped me to get through one of the most difficult times of my life. Being able to connect with others, witness them experience one of the happiest days of their lives and forget about my worries for a while, has absolutely been a welcome breather for my mental wellbeing. I can report she is finally doing really well 🙂

And finally, 2021 has brought me my first two repeat birth clients, an absolutely magical experience! Stay tuned for some birth blogs, who doesn’t love a good empowering birth story!

I am so so passionate about birth photography, normalising birth and protecting this sacred work and look forward to meeting all those who choose to work with me in the future.
